Community Ministries

Serving our Neighborhood, State and Beyond

Throughout the year we have several opportunities for outreach.

  • Frequently we will pack kits for disaster relief and help with efforts through UMCOR, the United Methodist Committee on Relief
  • We hold collection drives occasionally for needed items like socks for Pathways or children’s books for Reach Out and Read Alabama.
  • We serve meals at Church of the Reconciler in downtown Birmingham.
  • We work with Woodlawn area schools to provide needed resources and volunteers.
  • We sponsor a Little Free Pantry. In our parking lot is a cabinet where people can bring or take non-perishable food items and paper products.
  • We partner with other Woodlawn ministries so our neighbors can live and grow in a healthy way.

Woodlawn Community Table

The Woodlawn Community Table brings people together around food, service to neighbor and sustaining families.

We run two co-ops with 25 households each. Twice a month, the members of the co-op come together to do the work of unloading, unpacking, sorting and distributing food according to household size. We serve each other, then have a brief community meeting and worship time.

Instead of paying for membership in the co-op, each member has a task or responsibility. Serving in this way counts for community service required by SNAP. Members also make friendships and relationships with their neighbors that serve as another level of support and encouragement.

Requirements to be in the WCT are
* Residency in the 35212 zip code
* Eligibility according to The Emergency Food Assistance Program
* Transportation to and from co-op meetings

Currently both co-ops are filled. If you would like to inquire about getting on the waiting list, please call Valencia King at the church office, 205-595-3776.

Worship at Fair Haven

Every fourth Sunday our congregation leads worship at Fair Haven Methodist Home for the Aging. At 6:00 p.m. in the chapel we gather with residents to sing, pray and hear from the Word of God.
