Reconciling Ministries Network Update
What We’re Hoping as an RMN Church
As most of you know, Woodlawn was the first church in Alabama to affiliate with Reconciling Ministries Network. ( If you want more info on RMN, you can go to rmnetwork.org.) I recently met with our RMN organizer, Helen Ryde. Helen has worshipped with us before, most recently last spring. Helen shared what RMN is focused on right now and as an RMN church, these are things for you to know and respond to.
*General Conference will be held April 23– May 3, 2024 in Charlotte, NC. This conference was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The three most time-sensitive proposals that RMN is working towards are:
1. Adopt Global Regionalization
2. Adopt the revised Social Principles
3. Remove the anti-LGBTQ+ language and discrimination in our church
To help with this effort, you can read more on the RMN website; then pray for and write our North Alabama delegates to General Conference. They are representing us! Pastor Emily can give you contacts.
*RMN is still working towards ordination and marriage equality in the UMC. We can support them with funding, with prayers and with sharing their goals with others, especially other United Methodists. Only 9% of RM churches give to RMN and we are in that number. You can consider giving individually or contacting Helen for other ways to participate.
If you have questions or suggestions about our participation as a Reconciling Methodist Church, please don’t hesitate to talk to me.
